Metamorphosis – Adelina-Erica Abrudean

Adelina-Erica Abrudean is a visual artist based in Cluj-Napoca who prefers to go by Adee. Graduated the graphic department at the University of Arts and Design Cluj-Napoca, where she discovered her passion for traditional art, comic book and graphic design.

Her exhibition Metamorphoses captures various facets of femininity while aiming to highlight the changes and transformations a woman undergoes throughout her becoming. Each work illustrates Adelinas perspective as a young woman and an emerging artist. As a feminist, she believes in the strength and intelligence of woman. In their ability to adapt to diverse social and personal context.

For Adelina Abrudean the wasp is a symbol of communication, development, order, and progress. This insect inspired her, after a phase of self-searching, to work with creative purpose, doing her best making her dreams into reality. From her perspective woman are often associated with the bee; a symbol of diligence. Scientifically proven the wasp has a more complex social behaviour than we are normally given her credit for. What we can learn from her is how much we can achieve, if we signify our relationships with those around us. To deepen with patience our relationships with those around us.

The praying mantis is for Adelina a highly controversial and mysterious insect. Although it appears fragile, it is an agile and efficient predator. It is characterized by patience, introspection, and the wisdom with which it acts upon its prey. As woman are also sometimes associated with these virtues.

She associates woman with the wasp and praying mantis, because in various cultures both symbolize qualities of woman that she deeply believes in and with which she identifies. Both insects represent transformation and renewal, strength and discipline – qualities of woman in which she believes and recognizes in herself.
