In the exhibition WASSERWELTEN the FIVE PLUS ART GALLERY is showing paintings by the artist Traute Molik-Riemer. The beauty of water is impressively depicted in vibrant, colourful variations.
Water covers over 70% of the Earth’s surface and is essential to the entire ecosystem. Through her water-themed paintings, the artist reminds us that the future of our water landscapes depends on our ability to admire, understand, and protect them. The artist’s credo: Those who recognize the beauty of water will protect water—and thus life on our planet.
The artist Traute Molik-Riemer is often asked how she manages to convey the illusion of a reflective water surface so perfectly. Don’t the radiant shades of blue arise from the reflected colour of the sky, and the shadows of the waves from the abstract-looking brushstrokes depicting the movement of the waves? Yes, says the artist, but the essence—the feeling of oneness with nature that viewers experience when looking at the paintings—arises from multiple layers of paint and an intensive study of this most wonderful of all media. “I love water,” says the artist, “…and I want to share that feeling!”
Perhaps the artist’s love of water stems from her childhood? Traute Molik-Riemer was born on the Baltic Sea, in Kiel, but grew up near Vienna; she studied sculpture at the University of Applied Arts and later worked as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator. Since the 1990s, the artist has been using various techniques and series of images to depict what interests her: human beings, their mental capacities for perception and association. Through several trips to the sea, Molik-Riemer became aware of the relationship between the sea and people, wrote two books on health and water, and began depicting the abstract beauty of water in her paintings in 2005. Traute Molik-Riemer’s paintings have been presented in numerous exhibitions both in Germany and abroad.
