Regina Moritz’s conceptual painting from her series “Romance of Industry” give motifs known from reality a new appearance, creating a completely different effect. The viewer is confronted with industrial objects that appear familiar at first glance – but then again they are not. On closer inspection, it becomes clear that the individual picture elements have been reassembled like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. Pipes, panels, grids, lines are relieved of their function and are formally connected to form a new construct in a painterly manner.

The appeal of the newly created objects is precisely the unknown. A voyage of discovery into a painterly pictorial world characterized by spontaneous conceptual structures now begins for the viewer. Regina’s works are an invitation to leave the familiar reality behind and to engage in a new, painterly language of form, using imagination as a driving force. ©Phillip Worel, art historian
