Young artists from Cluj-Napoca (Romania) are showing paintings and drawings. Students from the University of Art & Design Cluj, who with their creative visions reflect  explorations of societal norms and identity. Charting their own paths and developing their own signature style.

Luiza Alicu’s (*Master’s student at the University of Art and Design Cluj) is particularly interested in isolated human figures captured in intimate spaces, where the location is merely an extension of the inner state. The artist focuses not only on the realistic depiction of everyday life, but also on a form of visual introspection, an attempt to capture human presence in all its fragility.

The drawings by Gabriela Cojocaru (*2002, master’s student at the University of Art and Design Cluj) create a real sense of tension with just a few thin lines—an act of discovery and obsession. The motif is simplified by depicting its basic geometric structures, allowing the forms to breathe in the space of the paper.

Madalina Virgolici (*2002, master’s student at the University of Art and Design Cluj) creates her own artistic universe in which she proposes a reinterpretation or interpretation of the natural landscape in an individual way as a sign of human influence on the environment. It is no longer clear whether the landscape in which they find themselves is the beginning or the end of a new story.

Alexandru Revesz (born 2003) is a master’s student at the University of Art and Design Cluj, where he is developing an artistic practice that focuses primarily on oil painting, with a gestural and expressive aesthetic. His works attempt to preserve the freshness of gesture and the spontaneity of form. They reflect a constant interest in the freedom of visual expression.  ©A.D.
