Monika Herschberger , born in 1976, studied painting for one year at the Vienna Art School under Gerhard Hermansky, followed by seslf-study and further training at the University of Applied Arts. From 1999 to 2003, she studied jazz singing at the Vienna Conservatory.

Her painting moves between gestural lightness and opulence. She uses graphic elements to create accents with powerful gestures, striking strokes, and a passion for material, color and pen. The works are created in resonance with states of emptiness and fullness – quiet moments of pause and pulsating vitality that finds their way onto the canvas in intoxicating moments. Music is a constant companion, which she lived extensively for several years  as a jazz singer and which still resonates in her art.

“During the creative process, my body functions as an instrument, and work is created in a state of “flow”, almost like a trance. I work with quick-dying acrylic paints on several canvases at the same time, often layering colors and accentuating them with chalk to create complex textures and layers.” ©Monika Herschberger
