vienna in time

This weeks artwork is vienna in time (oil on canvas) by Regina Moritz. Her painterly color spectrum is black and white or the different gray values. In her eyes the use of bright colors would distract too much from formal properties and structures, which she tries to express primarily with the line. Lines, movement and elements become impulses that the artist tracks down in the further painting process and creates completely new pictorial designs.

Interesting facts about Vienna
Around 70 AD, Vienna became a Roman equestrian camp called Vindobona. Margrave Leopold IV raised Vienna to a city (civitas) in 1137. In the 13th century the Habsburgs came to power. Due to the increasing pressure of the population in the 19th century the right for all people to vote was implemented. Viennese modernism created an atmosphere of optimism that was unique. The city grew and Viennese architects such as Otto Wagner, Adolf Loos or Josef Hoffmann made a name for themselves nationally and internationally.

At the beginning of the new century, achievements in painting, music, architecture and literature were concentrated in Vienna like nowhere else in Europe. Today Vienna is one of the most important cultural centers of Europa and one of the world capitals of music.
